Sunday Thought – 07.04.24

Typos in the modern world can often lead to humorous exchanges. It is very easy for someone trying to write “resuscitation” as part of their First Aid qualifications to end up writing “resurrection” instead, a much more impressive skill! However, whilst we are blessed with incredibly talented medical teams and first-aiders, none of them are able to bring someone perfectly back from the dead after twenty-four hours.

Last weekend, Christians remembered and celebrated the miracle of the resurrection of Jesus Christ at Easter, three days after he died to save the world from sin. The Bible attests that true resurrection is in God’s power and that Jesus himself resurrected three individuals (Mark 5:35-43; Luke 7:11-17; John 11). Before raising Lazarus, he told his grieving friend Martha, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” (NIV, John 11:25-26).

While the celebrations of Easter have finished, those same resurrection words can still provide reassurance and challenge today. “Do you believe” you have the certainty of eternal life with Jesus?

Prayer Points for the Week:

  • Pray for the family of the woman who was murdered in Bradford city centre on Saturday.
  • Pray for those in the Sydney area of Australia who are at risk of flash floods, particularly that no lives would be lost.
  • Please pray for the situations in Ukraine and the Middle East. For peace; for aid to get through to those in need; for those mourning the loss of loved ones.
