Sunday Thought – 28.04.24

Walking around an active building site an observer will sometimes find a number of ‘faults’ or ‘unfinished’ items that need to be raised to the contractor to be rectified. Some of these will be more serious than others but all will nevertheless be different to the design that was submitted.

How similar to what could be said of us! Christians believe that God had a perfect design for our world and humanity but that people thought they knew best and changed things, both in the world and in their lives. Whether or not you believe in God, if you care to look closely at your own life there will be ‘faults’ that need addressing.

According to Christians, the designer God enacted a plan to deal with our faults and sins once for all: sending Jesus to die on the cross to take the punishment for sin away from those who follow him. While there will always be small things in our lives needing attention, Christians believe that accepting Jesus’ sacrifice means that we can stand faultless before God when he judges our final ‘constructions’.

“For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

NIV, Colossians 1:13-14

Prayer Points for the Week:

  • Pray for the UK Local Elections this week, that people would be thoughtful in their voting.
  • Pray for the new transitional council in Haiti, that their plan to restore law and order will succeed.
  • Please pray for the situations in Ukraine and the Middle East. For peace; for aid to get through to those in need; for those mourning the loss of loved ones.
