Sunday Thought – 12.05.24

Last night was the Eurovision song contest – whatever your opinion of the singing, it brings many people together both locally and across Europe (and beyond with Australia’s involvement) for an evening of music. Although, as this year in particular showed, there are still divisions and arguments amidst that musical “unity”.

There is a person who unites in a way far greater than the winner of a song contest. Christians believe that Jesus came to earth as a saviour, living a perfect sinless life before dying, so that humanity would not only be united with one another but united with God. Sin (evil deeds and thoughts) made us an enemy of God and each other, but Jesus’ sacrificial death removes that enmity.

“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ”

NIV, Romans 5:1

According to the Bible, no other person or event can ever bring about this perfect unity. If you are a Christian today, give thanks for your uniting saviour this morning.

Prayer Points for the Week:

  • Pray for the families and descendants of those who lost their lives at sea, especially during today’s memorial service in Berwickshire.
  • Pray for those in Georgia fearing a loss of civil freedoms under a proposed new bill.
  • Please pray for the situations in Ukraine and the Middle East. For peace; for aid to get through to those in need; for those mourning the loss of loved ones.
