Sunday Thought – 13.10.24

Around this time of year many churches, schools and other groups in the UK will be organising ‘Harvest Festivals of Thanksgiving’ where they celebrate the harvest of food grown on the land and give thanks for a successful crop yield over the year as winter starts to approach.

Jesus talked to his disciples about a spiritual harvest. He said, “I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest” (NIV, John 4:35). The harvest to which Jesus was referring were those people who were ready to hear and respond positively to the Gospel which was being preached (John 4:34-38). Christians believe they have a responsibility to be involved in the ‘reaping’ of this harvest: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you” (NIV, Matthew 28:19-20). Are you a good harvester?
