Sunday Thought – 17.03.24

Spring is often seen as the season of ‘new life’. For meteorologists, the UK’s Spring commenced on the 1st of March while those who adhere to the traditional timing of the vernal equinox are still waiting for the season to begin on the 20th of March. Whichever you prefer to follow, Spring brings change and ‘new life’, both metaphorical and literal, in the natural world. Animals awake from hibernation, plants begin to grow, flowers bloom, days get longer, and the sounds of the newly born are heard such as chicks in nests and lambs in fields.

The Bible refers to Christians having a “new life” after they believe in Jesus as their saviour. The apostle Paul wrote that “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation: the old has gone and the new has come” (NIV, 2 Corinthians 5:17) and that “just as Christ was raised from the dead, through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life” (NIV, Romans 6:4). Jesus himself said, “I have come that they [my sheep/followers] might have life and have it to the full” (NIV, John 10:10). If you are a Christian, consider today the unrivalled benefits of new life in Christ as you enjoy the many pleasures of early Spring around you.

Prayer Points for the Week:

  • Pray for Wales’ new First Minister as he negotiates a difficult job and makes decisions affecting a nation.
  • Pray for the people of Haiti as gang violence continues to dominate the streets.
  • Please pray for the situations in Ukraine and the Middle East. For peace; for aid to get through to those in need; for those mourning the loss of loved ones.
