Sunday Thought – 10.11.24

Today is Remembrance Sunday, a time to rightly pause and remember the sacrifices of the many soldiers (in conflicts near and far) who gave their lives so that we can enjoy the freedoms that we so often take for granted.

Whilst we must never take away from the many sacrifices that have been made in war, Christians also spend time remembering one particular sacrifice of life outside of war. The Bible states that there is only one way for us to enter Heaven, only one sacrifice that completely dealt with sin that we might be restored to God: the death of Jesus on the cross. This sacrifice wasn’t forced into being through man’s ambition to conquer or pride in defending land, but simply because through love God wanted to provide a way to relationship with him for everyone who would accept it.

“You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly… God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

(NIV, Romans 5:6-8)

Many in the UK will be wearing poppies as a mark of remembrance today. If you are a Christian, consider if you are ‘wearing’ the greater sacrifice of Jesus: not as a cross pendant or similar symbol but whether your life is a personal remembrance which points others to your saviour,

Prayer Points for the Week:

  • Pray for those remembering loved ones lost in war.
  • Pray for the people of Pakistan as they face an increase in deadly suicide bomb attacks.
  • Please pray for the situations in Ukraine and the Middle East. For peace; for aid to get through to those in need; for those mourning the loss of loved ones.
